Micromax Enters Mid Premium Segment With Canvas 6

The smartphone sports a fingerprint scanner and is exclusively available on Flipkart.

Domestic handset maker, Micromax on Tuesday announced the launch of the Canvas 6 smartphone in India. Canvas 6 series is the first set of smartphones, which comes with Micromax service platform called ‘Around’. Priced at Rs. 13,999, the new Micromax Canvas 6 will be available exclusively via Flipkart apart from the company's online store.

“Micromax is always been a leader when it comes to a mass segment. But we are also seeing a lot of action happening in the 10-20 thousand segment. Therefore, we have launched Canvas 6 which is our flagship service in this price segment”, said Shubhajit Sen, Chief Marketing Officer, Micromax Informatics.

One of the unique features of the Micromax Canvas 6 over the Canvas 6 Pro, is that the former sports a fingerprint scanner at the back. Another highlight of the smartphone is it packs metal unibody which means non-removable battery. Much like the Micromax Canvas 6 Pro, the Canvas 6 also supports 4G LTE.

The Micromax Canvas 6 features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS display. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6753 SoC clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 3GB of RAM. There is 32GB of inbuilt storage and the handset supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 128GB).

The new smartphone will come preloaded with some apps including Amazon Kindle, Hike, Milive, Gaana, Opera max, Quikr, Skype, Snapdeal, Swiftkey, Vuliv, and Udio wallet.

“Around is very simple way for our consumers to discover the services around them like hotels, cabs etc. We want to allow our consumers to easily access the services and at the same time it gives a platform to the service providers where they can reach out to the large number of consumers”, Sen said.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Canvas 6 will come with deep integration of Around Yu, a service aggregator platform from Micromax which was earlier seen on Yu Yutopia.

The dual-SIM handset sports a 13-megapixel rear autofocus camera with LED flash and also comes with an 8-megapixel front-facing fixed-focus camera. The Canvas 6 is backed by a 3000mAh battery which is rated to deliver a talk time of up to 25 hours and a standby time of up to 305 hours.
