Cashless Payment With Fingerprints To Woo Tourists In Japan

Tourists can use fingerprint based payments at stores and hotels.

The Japanese Government in a bid to woo international tourists much ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics plans to introduce payments via fingerprint scans.
The new system would allow tourists to scan and register their fingertips and enter other personal data such as debit and credit card details at the airport itself.
The trail program which is voluntary would enable tourists to shop and check into a hotel that has been registered to use fingerprint scanners. About 300 stores and restaurants are expected to be a part of the trail program. This would ensure easy cashless purchases and tax exemptions for tourists just by verifying their finger prints.
The new alternative cashless payment method if proven to be viable will be implemented across the country prior to the Olympics season.
