Mondays can be a difficult transition. It feels like the weekend never existed, and you get sucked into a week of deadlines, the boss's tantrums, and the dreaded thought of what's next. The Monday Blues are totally understandable; we all go through it. Why wallow in it for an entire day, especially when there's a way out? Here's a list of apps that will pep up your mood and get you up and running for the long week ahead.
Breakfast Maker Lite
Platforms: iOS, Android
Very British in its approach, but it helps you concoct a variety of options for breakfast ideas that you can cook. It is a mini-kitchen on the move that builds up your appetite too. It does offer fantastic images, but provides limited options. A few essential things, such as making maple syrup, isn't available. Plus, it doesn't really suggest where to eat. Combine it with the Zomato food app, and you could have a food partner at work. Go for it, if only to make your workmate agree to your kind of brunch.
This app is just as good as your closet. Once installed, this is what you do: take pictures of all your belongings, including shoes and ties and belt (ensure full length with a common background). That's the lengthy part. Once registered, the outfit planner works like your stylist to show how the outfit will look on you before wear it. While it could have been a bit more specific in its suggestions — such as telling you to buy a purple tie or blue shoe — considering that it's free, you can't really ask for more.
The Happy Apps
Developer: The Happy Apps LLC
Price: $1.99 (Rs 110)
This iOS app claims to cure a wide variety of ailments that includes everything from headache, to boredom to insomnia, even depression using light and colour therapy. It features tools such as Happy Sleep, The Colour Therapist, The Happy Health Regimen, The Help Yourself Happiness Guide and The Light Therapy Box among others. It is based on scientifically-proven light cure therapy, where different colour lights of a certain wavelengths are used to cure psychological issues, heart ailment, skin disorders, and even sinus-related congestion. Heavy stuff!
The app does take a while to download. Once installed, it is fairly easy to navigate. It is user friendly and pretty informative; so useful if you want to boast your Aura knowledge during cooler talks. Not too sure of the benefits it brings forth health-wise, but for a not-so-good morning, it clearly brings in enough cheer through distraction. While working with the app, you may want to pare down the brightness of your iDevice though.
This app essentially offers a set of games that help your sharpen your grey cells on the move. However, we feel it is Android answer to the popular iOS app, the Brain Trainer. The app has a simple interface, with a few glitches - the graphics could have been better and the instruction should have been more specific. Once you get used to the game, there is nothing better to awaken your brain on a Monday morning. After effects: you would finally know where you kept your car keys last night.
Whack Your Boss II
Developer: Guo Xiu Jin
This app gives you a platform in the virtual world, to torture your boss in 20 different ways when no one's watching. Does it work? Oh, yeah. It's a chance to vent out your anger the way you want, when you want, and how you want. Beware: It's addictive, and can make you smirk at the wrong times! In short, this is the perfect post-lunch app to indulge in.
Face Mood Scanner
Developer: Asanka Senavirathna
This is an app that can scan your mood by reading your face — essentailly, a Candid Camera that provides feedback. Scientifically, it might not be even remotely accurate, but it is totally fun. All you need to do is take a person's picture and wait for the app to call it Gruffy, Slightly Gruffy, Happy, or Obnoxious, among other emotions. It works best as an icebreaker, provided you don't get slapped for your cheekiness. The software does hang once a while, whereupon you need to restart your device to make it work.
