5 Challenges Faced In Android Ecosystem

Google's Android OS is very popular now with over 83 per cent of market share, across the globe. The operating system's open source architecture has been helpful in making it the most accepted mobile OS amongst smartphone brands and consumers.

Sometimes, this open source architecture has also allowed brands to play around with the OS by not following the standard guidelines. This ends up in poor user experience and security issues on the user end. Thus, it becomes quite challenging to spread awareness about the true Android experience. In-fact, Google has its very own qualification structure, which is known as a CTS certification, which most brands fail to follow, thereby creating a number of issues.

Here are a couple of challenges in the Android Ecosystem:

1. Fragmentation of Devices:

According to Android guidelines, only a certain set of screen resolutions and hardware specifications can provide the best user experience. However, a few brands tend to miss out these basic guidelines and thus end up in giving an unstable user experience.

2. Regular Software Updates:

Google suggests every smartphone manufacturer to provide regular software updates for every device for at least 18 months, to make sure, users get the latest Android experience. This also includes security patches and bug fixes. However, only a few companies actually follow this, again ending up in giving an unstable user experience.

3. User Experience:

As per the standards set by Google, a company should customize Android in a proper way, making sure that, Android is not taking away from the original path. But, thanks to its open nature, a lot of manufacturers are now coming up with unnecessary modifications, which are not as per Google's recommendations and thus, causing serious problems for end users.

4. Bloatware:

Pre-installed apps which come with most of the Android devices, apart from Google apps, are known as bloatware. These are actually not required by most users. Yet, they remain in the system and users would not be able to remove them. These bloatware also consume a lot of memory and space, which again is not going to give users a good experience.

5. Lags And Crashes:

Most of the Android users have complains about the performance, such as lags and crashes. These are because of the improper testing of the software. Most of the smartphone makers end up in not running the CTS (Compatibility Test Suite) on the software before delivering it to the customers as this consumes time and a lot of resources, again creating an unfriendly user experience for the end users.
