The jury has decided that Android does not violate any patents, as claimed by Oracle. This has come as a major relief for the search giant, whose mobile OS enjoys a significant share of the smartphone market. Oracle's bone of contention in the lawsuit was against Google's using Java source code in its mobile operating system.

The trial that was initiated in April and lasted three weeks, relieved Google of eight counts on patent infringement claims...

The PS2 EyeToy Bundle Enables Motion Gaming For Rs 6000

It's no secret that the PS2 may not be Sony's mainstream console by a long shot, but it still accounts for a large chunk of its sales in India. Earlier this month Motorola Mobility had successfully sued Microsoft and secured an injunction against the sales of the X360 console in Germany. Now, an International Trade Commission (ITC) judge has ruled against Microsoft and recommended for ban on imports and sales of its console in USA. This applies to the 4 GB and 250 GB versions of the X360 Slim console for employing the H.264 video codec, which has been patented by Motorola.

However, if you think that the ruling will make X360s vanish from store shelves, you're sorely mistaken...

TechTree Impact: RCOM Begins Contacting Customers Harassed By Fake Arrest Calls

In an earlier news story, we had reported how Reliance Communications (RCOM) had denied any involvement or knowledge regarding calls made by recovery agents threatening customers with arrest for unpaid bills. The report seems to have struck a chord, with many readers chipping in with their personal accounts citing the same form of harassment. The encouraging reader response prompted us to create a survey meant to gauge the extent of this problem, so that operators could take remedial measures.

As a consequence of our reports, it appears that the company has now sitten up and taken notice of the issue. TechTree reader Sumeet Jain, whose case we had highlighted in our initial story, received a follow-up call a few days ago from an RCOM representative...

Review: Max Payne 3 (PS3)

Less Payne, more McClane.

RATING

Review: Max Payne 3 (PS3)

Pros: Polished to perfection; Spectacular set pieces; Impressive animation and physics; Excellent graphics; Generous level diversity; Fluid framerate; Top-notch sound effects.

Cons: Lacks the distinctive Max Payne feel; Some combat sequences are repetitive; Too many interruptive cutscenes; Feels a tad too long; Max comes across as a whinier version of John McClane.

Max Payne 3 (PS3)
Developer: Rockstar Games
Genre: Action

For someone familiar with the PC versions of the earlier games, the best way to describe playing Max Payne 3 (MP3) on a console is like having ice cream with chopsticks...

Meanwhile, worldwide pre-orders hit the 9 million mark.

Samsung Galaxy S III Available For Pre-order In India

Samsung India has begun accepting pre-orders for its upcoming GALAXY S III smartphone. If you are among the teeming millions clamouring for its quad-core goodness, you'll have to shell out Rs 2000 at the official online store to book one. The listing even promises an "assured free gift" for the faithful.

However, since there are reports of GALAXY S2 variants confirmed with less-than-spectacular hardware configurations in Japan (NTT Docomo) and US (Verizon), let's hope Samsung doesn't plan on conning Indian buyers with a castrated SoC...

Original scores from noteworthy games, including Unreal Tournament and Gears of War, released by developer as high-quality MP3s.

Download: Epic Games 20th Anniversary Original Soundtrack

Sounds hard to believe, but Epic Games really has been around for 20 years now. It's easier to come to terms with for old-schoolers, who grew up playing Jazz Jackrabbit, One Must Fall 2097, and Jill of the Jungle. That's when Epic used to be Epic MegaGames - way before it went on to make big-budget titles such as Gears of War and Unreal Tournament. On the eve of its 20th birthday, the gaming behemoth is giving away some memorable soundtracks, cherry-picked from its games spanning over two decades.

The compilation includes hard-to-find classics such as the themes from Jazz Jackrabbit and Tyrian to contemporary games such as Gears of War and Bulletstorm...

Summer 2012 Buyer's Guide: Headphones And In-Ear Monitors (IEMs)

Put an end to busting your wallet for great audio fidelity with this selection of products.

Summer 2012 Buyer's Guide: Headphones And In-Ear Monitors (IEMs)

This guide essentially covers headphones and In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) under Rs 6,000. That's the amount of money most average users are willing to spend on these products. Those with deeper pockets are hardened audiophiles, who don't frankly need much help to begin with. Another thing you will notice about this guide is that you won't find any relatively well-known brands here. For a good reason too!

I don't advise opting for easily visible brands, if your budget is under Rs 3000. Well-known manufacturers are too bloated with greater operational overheads to offer decent audio fidelity in the budget to mid-end IEM \ headphone segment...

Reliance Broadband Users Allegedly Threatened With Arrest For Unpaid Bills

The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) has been known to be proactive about protecting its interests. In the recent past, it has forced ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to block video and file-sharing websites such as Vimeo.com, RapidShare.com, MediaFire.com, and ThePirateBay.com with the help of court orders to protect its movies from piracy.

Now it looks like one of its subsidiaries, Reliance Communications (RCOM), isn't just content with restricting your freedom on the internet, but is now going after your very freedom, period. At least, that's what subscribers of Reliance's internet services are allegedly being threatened with for not paying their bills...

System using capacitance touch, RFID, and proximity sensors helps prevent deadly hospital infections.

Touchscreens Help Save Lives In Hospitals

It may come across as a shock, but your hands harbour more germs than a toilet seat. When healthcare professionals fail to sanitise their hands thoroughly in hospital, it leads to Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) - strains of drug resistant superbugs that have been claimed to kill more patients than breast cancer, HIV and car accidents combined.

Recent studies show that healthcare providers fail to sanitise their hands, 60% of the time. Safe-Hands Hygiene Monitoring System aims to reduce the risk of such infections by employing modern electronic sensors that can monitor doctors' and nurses' hygiene practices.

Greenpeace Pickets Apple's Bangalore Office

Remember how Greenpeace had pulled up Apple for using "dirty power" to run its iCloud server farms? This campaign has now reached the Indian shores. The crazy vegans at Greenpeace have been picketing the Apple office in Bangalore since yesterday, in protest of its reliance on polluting power sources. The organisation has also accused Amazon and Microsoft for using "asthma-inducing, climate destroying coal" to power their "cloud" services.

However, Microsoft's Indian offices haven't been under siege by Greenpeace yet. Although its efforts on the Indian front seem to be concentrated on Apple, it has launched a petition imploring Microsoft's Steve Ballmer...
