After creating the hype, Spanish manufacturer BQ has finally brought in the first Ubuntu series phones into the shores of India.

Dubbed as the Aquaris E4.5 and Aquaris E5 HD, the smartphones run on Ubuntu OS and have been priced at Rs 11,999 and Rs 13,499 while they are said to be exclusively available on Snapdeal by the end of the month.

Speaking about the BQ Aquaris E5 HD, the smartphone comes with a 5 inch HD display while being powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor and coupled with 1 GB RAM.

The smartphone also features a 13 MP rear camera with dual LED flash and a BSI sensor and Largan Lens along with a 5 MP front facing camera for video chats.

Along with this the E5 HD comes with 16 GB of internal storage, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G, GPS, MicroUSB and FM Radio connectivity options while the device is backed by a 2,500 mAh battery.

Speaking about another handset, the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition, it features a 4.5 qHD display, 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek Processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card and other connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G (HSPA+), GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB with OTG, and FM radio.

The smartphone sports an 8 MP rear camera with dual-LED flash and a BSI sensor, apart from a 5 MP front-facing camera for video chats. Both the cameras feature interpolation or picture-stitching technology that allows users to take 13 MP images with the rear camera, and 8 MP images with the front-facing camera. The E4.5 comes packed with a 2,150 mAh Li-Po battery.

However, while this holds record of being the first Ubuntu smartphone and also having received good response in Europe,  it doesn't necessarily mean that it can do pretty well in the Indian market which is flooded with Android smartphones.

We have to wait and watch to see how these handsets would face the over crowded smartphone market in India.
