Sony Announces The Launch Of Its Budget Smartphone Xperia E4

Xperia E4 will likely be available in stores by the end of February 2015.

The competition prevailing in the mobile industry seems to be taking the mobile giants on a roller coaster ride. With the entry of many new mobile phone companies, giants like Sony are also trying harder to enter the budget smartphone category and stay there for long.

Xperia E4, the new mobile phone announced by Sony is likely be launched in late February. The company is looking to set a new trend with the new curvy design. Though the actual price of Xperia E4 is not yet revealed by the company, we are expecting it to be around Rs. 10,000 just like its predecessor E3.

E4 is likely to have a boosted battery performance which the company claims that the phone once fully charged will last almost 2 days. The smartphone runs on a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582. Now, there could be various reasons why Sony didn’t go with the Qualcomm Snapdragon. The next Snapdragon budget chip would have not only bumped up the speed, it would have also switched to a different 64-bit architecture. The MediaTek solution might be a more affordable option that keep things familiar.

This time the storage capacity too seems to have been doubled from 4GB of X3 to 8GB. The screen is also a larger 5-inch display. Unfortunately, the resolution moved up only slightly from 854x480 to 960x540, otherwise known as qHD. The front-facing camera now boasts 2 megapixels but the back one unfortunately is still 5 megapixels.

That said, the Rs.10,000 price category is home to some really amazing handsets, with Chinese mobile phones having an upper hand. While Xiaomi and Lenovo have ample offerings in this price range, even Micromax with its Yu Yureka is not much far behind in offering an above average handset. Clearly, the Xperia E4 has a lot of competition to crack.
