Job Listing Reveales Apple's Plans To Bring Apple Pay To India

The report however doesn't mention a tentative timeline for the roll-out of Apple Pay in India

Apple Pay, the mobile payment service that tech giant Apple unveiled back in September, could soon make its way to India shores. A job listing on the company's website calls for an intern that will be part of a London-based team responsible for the service's roll-out in Europe, Middle East, India and Asia.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is looking to take put its iPhone 6-based payment system into as many hands worldwide as possible. The move comes following reports suggesting that Apple Pay accounted for 1 percent of all digital payments made in the US during the month of November, just a month after it was launched.

“Apple Pay is a new and exciting area in Apple that is set to expand across Europe, Middle East, India and Africa. Apple Pay will change the way consumers pay with breakthrough contactless payment technology and unique security features built right into their iPhone 6 or Apple Watch to pay in an easy, secure, and private way,” read the job listing on Apple's website.

The company has since taken down the job listing from its site, but not before 9to5Mac was able to scavenge, so head over there to see the entire job listing. Moreover, the JD calls for an intern that will be responsible for handling contracts and NDAs between Apple and third-parties like banks and retailers.

While the listing does not give a tentative timeline for the roll-out of Apple Pay in India, the setting up of a team does signify that the company has started moving in that direction. While Apple Pay will be natively supported only by the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, the last gen iPhones will support the service if paired to the soon to release Apple Watch.
