Instagram Adds New Filters And A Filter Manager In Its New Update

With a manager in place, it seems like there will be a lot more filters headed to the app in the near future.

Instagram has just announced its biggest update yet. While everything may still look the same when you open the app on your iOS or Android device, its the filters inside that have changed, which is why this is such a big deal.

The developers decided to retain the older ones and added five more new ones that all come with their distinct names and effects. Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua will softly shift and change colours and are pretty light and sober compared the earlier ones found on the app.

With new filters added to the existing lot, it clearly made sense to add a filter manger in place. You can now not only choose the order of the filters but even hide the ones you don’t use with the help of the filter manager. Hiding a filter is as simple as pressing down on one for selection upon which a ‘drag to hide’ message appears. Simply drag that old filter to the point and it will be hidden from your collection. Accessing the filter manager is easy as well. Simply scroll till the end of the long line up of filters and there it is.

The UI of filter tool has been changed as well, although they are pretty subtle. The preview of your photograph with the filter as a blurred image is the filter preview and not the filter image as before. We somehow found this to be a step back and would have preferred the filter set up on iOS Camera app instead that gives users a live preview of the filter. Still then all of above, accounts for a massive update that took about two years to deliver (the last filter update was in 2012).

The update is already available for download on both the App Store and Google Play as well, while we have no clue about the Windows Phone app being updated as of now.
