Micromax's Upcoming Canvas Selfie Packs A 13MP Front-Facing Camera

The device has apparently been designed for image-conscious women

Micromax has announced the launch of the Canvas Selfie smartphone, equipped with 13MP Sony-sourced rear and front-facing cameras with in-built flash modules. The company says the device is designed for image-conscious women (as if no one else takes selfies) and will go on sale in the second week of January.

There's no details on the price of the Canvas Selfie just yet, but it does feature a 4.7-inch HD display, and is powered by a 1.7 GHz octa-core processor. There are numerous image retouching features baked right into the stock camera app such as: Eye Enhancement, Face Slimming, Skin Smoothing, Teeth Whitening, etc.

Coming back to the hardware, the Canvas Selfie will come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, with the option to expand that by up to 32GB with a microSD card. The screen is protected by a slab of Gorilla Glass 3, and powering all that hardware will be a 2,300mAh battery.

The numbers

According to Vineet Taneja, CEO of Micromax, over a million selfies are taken every day, out of which 40% are retouched. The goal of the company then was to create the perfect blend of hardware and software to allow users to take the perfect selfie, leading to the development of the Canvas Selfie.

“The Canvas Selfie is an ideal smartphone for the selfie-obsessed users delivering fantastic images and equipping them with great beauty editing tools to look glamourous always,” he added.

The device will run on Google's Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, and there's no word whether it will ever get the Lollipop update. Unlike a lot of the competition these days, the Canvas Selfie will be available in the second week of January in both online and offline stores.
