Meanwhile, Dropbox And Microsoft Join Hands To Offer Secure Cloud Editing

Do we see a OneBox in the making a year from now?

Dropbox and Microsoft will soon offer editing of office documents right from cloud storage. While this has been quite a staple on Google Drive for long, seems like Dropbox was looking for an editing tool and Microsoft being the best editor available, has delivered. They have now joined hands to offer a better Office experience on iOS and Android.

The integration will apparently work both ways says the blog post meaning that you will be able to access (from your Office app) and edit files (from Dropbox via the Office app) directly form your tablet or smartphone . You can edit them on the fly and even save it in a secure folder online on Dropbox’s servers all within the app. The whole experience will offer simpler integration and better syncing across devices, thanks to Dropbox. Another addition would be the ability to share links directly from the Office app to anywhere else.

The new features will roll out as updates to the current apps on both operating systems in the coming weeks. While Android users have plenty of flexibility with Google Drive services (more so because they now have the Docs, Sheets and Slides apps) editing with any of the apps is still a bit limited, which is where Microsoft is needed and why we may be seeing the whole partnership happening in the first place. OneBox? Well, there may still be some time till that happens.
