Skype To Get A Big Update; Will Run Smoother On Your iPhone

Update brings a fresher UI, group chats and less lag.

Skype for iPhone is set to get a massive update, which will bring the ignored iOS app on par with Windows Phone and Android counterparts. We have no clue why Microsoft chose to ignore the iOS ecosystem, but clearly, the app was lacking a lot of features and more importantly a smoother UI.

The updated app gives the UI a refreshed look and even includes the side swipes in certain sections, which show the Windows Phone influence here. Everything else now works more iOS-like (the way it should have been); flawlessly without any lag.

You can now add friends to groups directly, without waiting for them to come online.  Everything is divided into hubs which makes using the app a lot less complicated. Moreover, Skype has apparently worked on message and status syncing as well to make chatting and video calling seamless across devices.

It is pretty evident that Microsoft is trying to promote its Windows Phone Modern UI and design language across other platforms, familiarising users and even convincing some to make the switch. This is evident, not only in the Skype app for iOS, but also in plenty of Android apps like Office, Outlook and more. This makes us wonder; is Windows Phone the only OS to sport an original design language then?

The update is not out yet, but will be available in a week’s time for iOS users.
