Updated Google Maps Make Re-Routing Faster With Notifications

Whether you love Nokia’s Drive or Google Maps we will all admit that we have used their maps services while travelling. And with these services improving at such steady pace, additional features always trickle down and are being roped in to give us more value.

Google Maps recently acquired Waze a popular crowd-sourced social navigation app back in June and then introduced incident reports. This time around, they seemed to have worked on a reducing route times and even showing quicker ways to get to your destination.

It does this by simply scavenging for quicker routes as alternate options even though you have not gone off the suggested route yet. Then it quickly prompts the user about the newer, faster route by drawing a pop-up notification with suggestions.

Whether the new feature is an advantage or distracting, only time will tell once users begin to take advantage of it. We do hope that the Google adds an option for the feature to be turned off; as such notifications can be quite distracting while driving.
