Microsoft Names India-Born Satya Nadella As CEO

The software-giant finally gets a leader that enjoys cricket.

Microsoft has finally named Satya Nadella as its third Chief Executive Officer. The Hyderabad-born has been the Executive Vice President of Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise group. Before joining Microsoft 20 years ago, he has worked at Sun Microsystems. Although Satya is now an American citizen, he still enjoys Cricket as mentioned on his official page.

Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975. For almost four decades, the company has only seen two CEOs - Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. After taking up his new role at Microsoft, Satya said that “The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must move faster, push harder and continue to transform,”. As expected, Bill Gates has step down as Chairman to take up a new role as technology advisor. This probably means that he will involved in the direction of the company’s products and technology.

Many believe that Satya is a safe bet for Microsoft compared to other candidates including Stephen Elop (known for his "burning platform" memo at Nokia). Now whether Satya will lead Microsoft for years to come or he's more of a 'caretaker' type CEO remains to be seen.
