Apple App Store Numbers Found To Be Inflated With "Zombie Apps"

Nobody seems to be downloading many of the 900,000 apps.

 

Apple's App Store is reported to host a sizeable number of "zombie apps" or inactive applications that are hardly downloaded according to the BBC. The company celebrated the 5th anniversary of its Apps Store yesterday and at the same time boasted about having 900,000 apps in its store. However, Apple says that around 90% of its apps are being downloaded at least once a month, which leads us to deduce that 10% can safely be termed as "zombie apps". However, the tracking service Adeven puts the number at 579,001 of the 888,856 apps in its database, which is huge, to say the least.

Google Play Store, which is the next best competing platform in terms of sheer numbers, hosts over 800,000 apps, of which also many are inactive. With this new revelation, it is clear that the Android application store isn't the only one to draw flak for useless apps. Windows Phone Store, which is the third most popular app ecosystem at present has around 160,000 apps and we can safely say that it too has its share of inactive applications, although the number is not known as of now. All said and done, it remains a fact that the Apple App Store continues to remain on top in terms of popularity with Google's Play Store closely trailing behind.
