Rumour: Gionee ELIFE E6 Smartphone Launching Soon With 2GB RAM, 13MP Camera

The smartphone is speculated to be priced at around Rs 20,000 in India.

Gionee, a Chinese brand that entered India with its Dream D1 dual-core smartphone (priced Rs 18,000), is now looking at launching a quad-core smartphone. This smartphone is said to have 2GB of RAM, which would be the device's USP - useful for high-end games. Its high price (versus competition) may not let it substitute for a mini gaming console though, as the Gionee ELIFE E6 is rumoured to hover around the Rs 20K price range.

A Gionee Facebook post states that the new quad-core smartphone from Gionee would be named the Gionee ELIFE G6, expected to be driven by a 1.5 GHz Mediatek 6589T SoC which is a fairly good spec on-paper. The Gionee ELIFE E6 smartphone may well compete with Indian brands such as Micromax/Karbonn/Lava, so Gionee can expect to capture some eyeballs with the hype. But the image of Chinese branded devices as "unreliable" and "cheap", could be an obstacle to Gionee in their India plans.

Some details like internal storage and dual-SIM support are not yet available. The tech-specs known about Gionee's ELIFE E6 so far are:

  • 5-inch display, Full-HD (1920x1080)
  • Android 4.2 operating system
  • 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT6589T quad-core processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 13 MP primary camera, and a 5 MP secondary camera
  • 2000 mAh battery
