Microsoft Unveils Xbox One, Seems More Than A Gaming Console

Features a revamped dashboard, multitasking support, and an 8 core processor.

 

Almost eight years after the Xbox 360 first came out, Microsoft has finally unveiled its next-gen gaming console — the Xbox One. Unlike Sony, the guys at Redmond actually showcased the entire package, and not just a controller. Apart from gaming, the console in its latest iteration promises to deliver TV, music, and video chatting capabilities.

The Xbox dashboard (console's UI) has also received a face lift; it looks more like the Windows 8 operating system. Thanks to its multitasking capabilities, you can use Internet Explorer and chat with your Skype friends all at once. Building onto the speech technology TellMe, the console also recognises voice commands. For instance, you can simply say "Xbox watch HBO" and it will do that for you. And you can also make video calls using Skype.

On the hardware front, the Xbox packs in an 8 core processor, 8 GB of RAM, 500 GB hard drive, Blu-ray drive, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi, and HDMI-Out. Microsoft has also made changes to the controller and Kinect accessory.

Coming to the subject of games, the highly-anticipated Call Of Duty: Ghosts, Forza Motorsport 5, FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, NBA LIVE 14, and Quantum Break will be made available for Xbox One, with more titles expected to be announced at E3 2013. While the company hasn't shed any light on its exact pricing or availability, the Xbox One will launch in markets around the world later this year.
