Leaked: Next-Gen Windows Screenshots, Features Info

Introduces IE 11 and smaller tiles that snap together; Windows Blue Milestone 1 has leaked to file-sharing sites.

 

Microsoft's upcoming operating system code named Windows Blue may indeed be a reality as screenshots were leaked on the Polish-language Winforum website. And that is not all; the new version with a Build 9364 dated 15th March has been leaked on file sharing websites. It looks almost the same as Windows 8, but has a few changes.

Among the new features that are visible are smaller square tiles that are a fourth the size of the small square tiles in Windows 8. These can snapped together in groups of adjacent two or four. Currently, Windows 8 has only two Live Tile types — square and horizontal rectangle, with twice the area of the square tile, allowing it to display more detailed live updated info. Of course, the even smaller tiles in Windows Blue will be able to display very little, if any, live information. Additionally, one of the screenshots also shows that the new build will come with Internet Explorer 11.

The Charms bar will feature new "play" (similar to the PlayTo options in Windows 8) and screenshot options. The SkyDrive service seems to have better camera integration for photo uploads and also better control over device backups and files. Additionally, tablet users will not have to use the desktop Control Panel to change things. There is also support for new gestures, according to TheVerge, although details have not been shared.

Microsoft had launched Windows 8 in October last year with the preview and beta being made available one year earlier. It is unusual for the software giant to launch a new OS in such quick succession, although all indications point to a launch of Windows Blue next year, if the company stays true to its track record of allowing users to sample a preview version for a few months at least. A public preview of Windows Blue can then be expected by May this year.
