Cat Launches Its Rugged Smartphone S60 In India

The smartphone was unveiled at MWC 2016, and is now available in India for Rs 64,999.

US based construction machinery manufacturing company Caterpiller, better known as Cat, has finally launched its rugged smartphone, the S60, after nearly a year since it was unveiled at MWC 2016.

While ‘Cat’ smartphones mainly emphasise on durability, the S60 also comes with FLIR Lepton Thermal Microcamera Module of 13 MP on the rear panel, which seems to be another highlight of the device. Well, it is being said that, this thermal camera would help users detect heat loss around windows and doors.

According to the company, the thermal camera visualises heat that is invisible to the naked eye, highlighting temperature contrasts. It can also pick up heat and measure surface temperatures up to a distance of around 30 metres, and see through obscurants such as smoke, enabling a huge range of use cases for building professionals, utility workers, outdoor sports enthusiasts, and emergency first responders, etc.

The Cat S60 is also waterproof to depths of up to 5 meters for one hour, allowing it to be used to take video and pictures while underwater. To enable this feature, users will have to set the unique lockdown switch to 5M.

On the other hand, the smartphone comes with a 4.7 inch HD display while a 3,800 mAh battery backs it up. It supports 4G LTE and is powered by Snapdragon 617 octa core processor. The device also packs a 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM, while it runs on Android Marshmallow.
