GPS Enabled INR 2,000 Notes Confirmed As Hoax

The social media message that was circulated among everyone in less than a day has finally been confirmed as a hoax.

 

Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced over the media about the demonetisation of INR 500 and INR 1000 currency notes in the country, the social media took into storm with reports stating about the new Nano GPS chips (NGC) being embedded into the new INR 2,000 currency notes, to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India.

However, it looks like reports have turned out as hoax when Finance Minister Arun Jaitley himself dismissed these rumours. Gadgets 360 has reported that Arun Jaitley was asked by a reported about the tracking chip, to which Jaitley replied, “From where did you come to know this? I haven't heard of it.”

To refresh your minds, the GPS chip integrated into new INR 2,000 currency notes circulated a lot among many social media and WhatsApp users, while a couple of other media portals also claimed that this technology was not feasible practically.

The rumours claimed earlier that the NGC would reflect back the signal sent from a Satellite, and thereby giving precise location of the currency notes and their exact serial numbers. Rumours also stated that by tampering the NGC, one would actually end up damaging the currency note.

However, Jaitley has finally confirmed that no such technology has been embedded in to the new INR 2,000 currency notes.
