Coolpad VR 1x Virtual Reality Headset Goes On Sale On Amazon India On Friday

And it’s a bargain at INR 999.

I was prepared for months of saving- and by months, I mean years- for a more-than-decent VR headset. I had plans and everything. And then Coolpad rolled back the curtain on their show, and I’m suddenly looking at just a few months- and this time I do mean just ‘months’.

The new VR 1x Virtual Reality headset from Coolpad is set to hit the virtual shelves on Amazon India this Friday- and it just costs INR 999. I mean, talk about student budget friendly!

While the company says that it’s meant to work with Coolpad devices, it adds that the headset will work with any smartphone with screen sizes between 4.7 to 5.7 inches with HD resolution. The phone should have a gyroscope for the headset to work properly- for those who don’t know, a gyroscope is a sensor that can sense rotational motion and changes in the phone’s orientation. Pretty important for a VR headset, I’d say.

The Chinese company says its VR headset comes with 'customisable lenses' that adjust focal length, making the device comfortable to use for long periods of time

Syed Tajuddin, CEO, Coolpad India said, "With visual reality being the new fun gadget for the Y generation and fast catching up with youth, we are eager to enter this space and offer the 'Cool VR' to our fans. This launch is in line with our strategy to bring Coolpad's accessories to the Indian market and we will be soon unveiling other products in this growing segment such as Power Bank and Smart Watch by 2016."

He further added, "According to a recent report, the global VR market is expected to touch an estimated $120 billion by 2020 and India, with its huge smartphone base, is set to become the largest VR market. The timing is perfect for the launch of wearable products in India and with our superior technology offering, we are confident in generating favourable response in this segment as well like we did in the smartphones segment."

With the Samsung VR headset that costs over 10K, and the Intex counterpart that costs INR 8999, Coolpad might actually have a hit on its hands as far as student VR enthusiasts are concerned.
