The Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus Comes With A Peculiar Monochrome Camera Sensor

Xiaomi joins the dual-camera party with its latest handset.

Xiaomi has joined the dual-camera party by announcing the Mi 5s Plus. Unlike Apple or HTC's implementation though, Xiaomi's secondary lens is a monochrome one. The idea here is to capture colour images from one sensor and add sharpness captured from the monochrome sensor. You can also use the secondary sensor for black and white photography. Xiaomi uses 13-megapixel optics made by Sony, so the shutterbugs have a lot of interesting stuff to look forward to.

The Mi 5S Plus isn't only about camera though. The phone sports a 5.1" Full HD IPS screen. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 chipset. The company mentions that there will be two variants of the handset. One with 4 GB RAM and the other with 6 GB RAM. Remaining specs include, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS, NFC, and 3800 mAh battery.

Much like its younger sibling Mi 5S, this phone features an "ultrasonic" fingerprint sensor. The Mi 5s Plus boasts of stylish metal body. More importantly, its dual-camera setup does not protrude like that of the iPhone 7 Plus. The Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus will be available in China from by the end of this. The base model with 64 GB internal storage costs 2300 yuan (approx Rs 23,000), the top model with 128 GB storage will set you back for 2600 yuan (Rs 26,000).
