"Phablet" Fight: Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ Vs iPhone 6 Plus

By launching the iPhone 6 Plus, Apple challenged Samsung in the "phablet" market. After years of dominance, Samsung's oversized phones finally got some serious competition. Being a pioneer of this category, Samsung has upped the ante with its new handset the Galaxy S6 edge+. We don't have anything concrete on the pricing yet, but it is supposed to be in the same bracket as the iPhone 6 Plus. Here's how it stacks up against Apple's offering:

Design
Look and feel has always been a weak spot for Samsung. Not in the case of the Galaxy S6 edge+ though. For its latest phablet, the Korean company has used premium glass and metal. Curved edge screen is a welcome addition too.

Apple can't do much wrong when it comes to the aesthetics and material quality. The iPhone 6 Plus, is sleek and elegant compared to most Android "phablets" in the market.

Display
Screen is one of the departments where Samsung has an upper hand. Not because of the slightly bigger size, but the panel type. Samsung's AMOLED screen produces vibrant colours and deep blacks. There's no way, the IPS panel on the iPhone 6 Plus can match that.

Samsung also beats Apple in terms of sharpness. The 5.7" screen on the Galaxy S6 edge+ boasts of Quad HD resolution, while Apple's 5.5" screen settles for Full HD quality.

Camera
Taking inspiration from Nokia's high-end Lumia line-up, both Samsung and Apple have implemented OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) in it top-end phones. While we haven't checked the S6 edge+'s camera yet, going by the numbers, it seems to have an edge over the iPhone 6 Plus' camera. Compared to Samsung's 16 megapixel camera, the one on the iPhone 6 Plus snaps the pictures at max 8 megapixel quality.

Samsung has done enough to please the selfie lovers too. The S6 edge+ offers a 5 megapixel front-facing camera, whereas the iPhone 6 Plus settles for a 1.2 megapixel module.

Processor and RAM
Much like the Note5, the Galaxy S6 edge+ is powered by an octa-core Exynos 7420 chipset. The phone packs-in 4 GB RAM. In comparison, the iPhone 6 Plus' specs may not sound very, as it features a 1.4 GHz dual-core A8 64-bit chipset along with the M8 motion coprocessor. Software optimisation plays an important important role when it comes to performance. And as we all know, iOS is lighter than Android. Therefore, lets not get excited about Samsung's octa-core chip.

Storage
iPhone never had a microSD card slot, and this one is no exception. The iPhone 6 Plus comes with 16 GB, 64, GB, and 128 GB storage option. Following Apple's footsteps, Samsung too have done away with a memory expansion slot. The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ in 32 GB and 64 GB version.

Misc
The iPhone comes with a bunch of sensor including fingerprint scanner (Touch ID), proximity, and barometer. The last one is used to keep track of elevation. NFC's use is limited to Apple's payment system. Samsung packs-in all the similar sensors and then some more including the heart-rate sensor. Moreover, the infrared port can be used for controlling TV and other appliances.
