Good build, 16:10 Aspect Ratio, 5 ms Response time, Asus Splendid technology, Excellent color reproduction.
Slight mismatch in the HCR test, Video presets don't make much of a difference, Expensive.
Another one of those devilish 19-inch LCD monitors made it to our Test Labs the other day. Not that I ain't happy to see one, but it's a real pain when it has to go back, given my fetish for widescreen monitors.

Nevertheless, this monitor is the Asus VW192T. Being a 19-inch widescreener, it sports a 16:10 aspect ratio. Let us see what it's all about.

Features

The Asus VW192T stands tall (and wide) at 458 x 368 x 207 mm and sports an all-black matte finish around the screen and the base. In fact, the base is quite heavy and has concentric circles running over it.

The TFT-LCD panel has a maximum resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels (WXGA+) at a pixel pitch of 0.285mm. The monitor has a response time of 5ms and can display 16.2 million colors. It has a viewing angle of 160" (H)/160" (V), a contrast ratio of 800:1 and brightness of 330cd/m2.

The VW192T incorporates the Asus SPLENDID Technology that includes Video Intelligence technology, Video presets, and presets for Skin Tone selection and Color Temperature.

Video Presets include: Scenery, Theater, Game, Night View and Standard Modes, while the Skin tone presets include: Reddish, Natural and Yellowish.

Hidden behind the panel are two 1W (RMS) speakers that deliver stereo quality sound. Though I wouldn't bet on quality, it's more than enough to listen to your theme and system sounds or chat-messenger window sounds and voice.

The monitor sports both DVI-D and a VGA (D-Sub) connector, works at an Analog Signal frequency of 31-80 Hz(H)/ 56Hz-75 Hz(V) and a Digital Signal Frequency of 30-75 Hz(H)/ 60Hz-70 Hz(V).

The 100x100 mm VESA mounting bracket on the back makes wall mounting possible. The Asus VX192T consumes around 46W of power when in use and around 2W when in Power Saving Mode.

The monitor also comes with a cover on the back that serves as a cable management feature hiding the power and DVI/VGA cables from view.

Bundle

The Asus VX192T sample that we received had the following items bundled:

Asus VX192T 19-inch Monitor
Monitor Base
DVI-D Cable
5 Power Cables
Manual

The 5 power cables allow you to connect the monitor to any kind of power outlet on the planet.

Analysis

We used DisplayMate to conduct a variety of tests ranging from Geometric Pattern tests to the Color Reproduction test (and everything in between).

The screen geometry, brightness and contrast levels were perfect with excellent color reproduction. The picture quality was sharp and the color reproduction was excellent without any bleeding of color. There was an insignificant amount of mismatch with Red and Green bands in the Horizontal Color Registration test. Also, the contrast wasn't as good as we expected it to be, especially with colors fading towards the brighter side of the scale. Otherwise, the pictures were as sharp and crisp as they could get. There was no ghosting in games either, thanks to its 5 ms response time.

Although, the video presets didn't significantly improve the visuals, they didn't mess them up either. The OSD buttons placed just below the TFT screen are neatly labeled and are quite easy to use. As far as the audio tests were concerned, as I said earlier, it would be best to use them to listen to your theme and system sounds or chat-messenger window sounds only.

Apart from these minor glitches, the screen quality is excellent and added with the Asus SPLENDID Video Intelligence technology, the viewing experience is nothing like you've seen before.

Conclusion

The Asus VW192T LCD monitor is available for Rs.13,500 with a 3-year limited warranty. The monitor delivers better video quality than most, but with a Viewsonic 19-incher already being sold in the market for Rs. 9,500 (approx), the price of this model can be termed as steep. A premium of Rs. 1000 to 1500 would have been fine for its faster response time and extra features, but 4K more is a bit too high. Yes, the VW192T is an excellent product, but Asus need to rethink their pricing strategy for this monitor.
