Some time back we reviewed the Canon Powershot A700 and today we have with us another addition to the PowerShot range.
The Canon Powershot A710 IS is essentially based on the A700. The significant differences between the two are: a high resolution 7.1 MP CCD and an optical image stabilization module. Let us see what difference it actually makes.
The Camera
The A710 IS is based on the A700 and carries the same boxy design layout.
The camera measures 94.5 x 66.5 x 43.4mm (excluding protrusions), weighs 200 grams (without batteries), and has a plastic and metal finish (although plastic used is much more than metal).
It has the same F2.8-4.8 and 6X optical zoom lens as the A700. You can also attach select conversion lens adapters. Set inside the lens is Canon's optical image stabilization system, IS for short (and that's why the suffix).
The IS sensors detect the tiny movements of your hands while clicking a picture (also known as 'camera shake') and shifts a lens element to compensate for this motion, thus producing much sharper image results at slower shutter speeds than one could get on a camera without IS.
Other features on the camera include a 2.5" LCD display, full manual controls, support for conversion lenses, and a VGA movie mode.

I want advice from all of you that I have got an offer of Rs.11,500 for A710 IS in the gray market in Delhi, should I go for it? The package include 16MB memory and necessary accessories, excluding battery charger. They are also offering me Uniross charger and 4 batteries at Rs.700. The product is brand new and I had even taken some test shot the image quality was really good. Please respond my appeal.
Try indiaplaza.in (formerly fabmall.com) for a good offer on A710. You can get one for around 12,850 and the offer includes a 1GB SD card and a camera case.
Being a user of Canon Digicams for the past 6 years now now we have 4 of them- I firmly believe that Canon makes the best Digicams & provides best support in India- as also Canon A710-IS is the most well-rounded compact digital camera. offering a great combination of portability, creative control and features The 7 megapixel sensor may not grab the headlines, but it does offer a good compromise between image size and quality. We have one in family, brought over from USA for $ 310.
Like all recent A series models it offers an awful lot of camera for what is (for Canon at least) a very low price. Even better is the full manual control over aperture and shutter speeds, making the Canon Powershot A710 IS suitable for everyone from the casual weekend snapper to the more experienced photographer looking for a carry-everywhere alternative to their DSLR. Despite "only" having 7 megapixels and no flip-out screen, the A710 IS thoroughly deserves its place at the top of Canon's A-series range, and is also a great digital camera in its own right & surely this deserves 4-1/2 stars from Sudeep Naik.
I may add that it is now available for Rs. 13345 plus Rs. 60-00 shipping with 1 year warranty.
Canon showroom is quoting 18.5K whereas some other shops are quoting 16K (incl 1GB card, pouch, charger & 2 yr warranty). Are they reliable or gray market pieces? In the latter case, warranty may not be valid in Canon service center...
hello plez sent me a catlock book of cannon camera. then i will think to buy a cannon camera. ok thanks my adress shop no. 08 abi guzar residency road srinagar kashmir 190001
Like i mentioned the guy i brought it from was given a 1 gb card with it. Been using the cam for a few weeks and pictures are really good..
The only negative, i find it that the flash recharge time is a little long... Besides this everything is prefect...
A friend of mine was looking for a camera for his son in boarding school. After getting the info about sifymall from Vijayshimla, I found that Sifymall's prices on cameras were indeed excellent. My friend placed an online order for the powershot A460 on Friday and yesterday the camera reached his hands in Mumbai. Everything correctly included in the bundle.
Only hassle is that the 1 year warranty is from a dealer in Chennai. Hope he doesn't need the warranty.
Well this is a awesome cam. Some really good features. I picked it up in mumbai for around 15500 with a 1 GB card and 2 years warranty. I think that a brilliant deal.
Hey Vijay, you forget he got an additional 1 year warranty too. Wonder how that works. If the warranty is executed by Canon, how come the period varies with vendor?
I too concur with Vijay that Canon makes the best digicams. I can't vouch for their service though as I never had to use it. @13345 it is fantastic VFM but tell me Vijay where can you get that price? JJ Mehta says 18500/-
Got it Vijay. Thnx. Any idea how reliable is sify mall and how exactly their 1 year warranty operates? I guess it is valid for the local Canon service centre right?
