Fortinet has announced FortiClient Mobile, an integrated security software agent for Microsoft Windows Mobile and Symbian OS-enabled mobile smart phones and PDAs.

An extension of FortiClient security software, FortiClient Mobile is touted as the first mobile end-point security solution to integrate full antivirus, MMS/SMS anti-spam, personal firewall plus address book protection, and IPSec VPN capabilities, so as to protect mobile subscribers from constantly evolving and sophisticated mobile threats.

With a growing number of smart phone subscribers utilizing standard operating systems such as Windows Mobile and Symbian, FortiClient Mobile is geared to offer enhanced security to these subscribers.

FortiClient Mobile comes in versions including FHA (supports one user), FHB (supports five users), FHC (supports ten users), and FHD (supports 25 users). All versions have email support.

Meanwhile, mobile carriers are under growing pressure to protect against the following: cyber threats that can compromise mobile operating systems; mobile application viruses that can lead to fraudulent service charges; MMS/SMS spam that can lead to phishing scams; vulnerabilities between mobile smart phones and corporate resources that might require encryption; etc.

Freddy Mangum, vice president - product marketing, Fortinet, said, "Today's sophisticated and criminal-oriented blended threats cannot effectively be combated by yesterday's point-product security technologies such as the stand-alone anti-virus software that currently resides on millions of mobile phone devices. Smart mobile phone devices require a multi-layered and integrated security approach that can fully protect the mobile subscriber."

Vishak Raman, country manager, Fortinet India, said, "Fortinet end users can download and install this software on their smart phones and PDAs. Customers can protect their smart phones and PDAs from constantly evolving and sophisticated mobile threats with this software."

FortiClient Mobile is immediately available for purchase on shop.fortinet.com. It will soon be available through key mobile carriers and selected phone set manufacturers.

While FHA costs around $69.95, FHB is available for $250.00, FHC is priced at $457.00, and FHD is shipping for $1,037.00. The new software runs on Windows Mobile 5.0, and Symbian OS versions 7.0, 8.0, and 9.0 for specified smart phones.

  • Why would you prefer buying an iPod Touch over an iPhone?
  • I don't, iPod Touch is redundant when you can buy good media phones

It is cheaper/It's better value for money

I don't want to drain my phone's battery for entertainment
