Apple Hires DVD Jon

Apple Hires DVD Jon

Techtree News Staff, Apr 01, 2005 0000 hrs IST

Apple has hired DVD Jon. The very same Jon, who's broken into iTunes thrice giving them sleepless nights.

"If you can't beat them hire them" - This seems to be Apple's new motto. The reason being, it has hired DVD Jon. The very same Jon, who's broken into iTunes thrice giving them sleepless nights.

The first time he targeted iTunes was when he decrypted Apple Computer's wireless music streaming technology. He published the key that Apple's wireless hi-fi bridge, Airport Express, uses to protect music streams and also released another program along with the key and in effect contribute to making it possible for other software applications other than Apple iTunes to work with AirPort Express.

The second time around DVD Jon and two other programmers released software they call "PyMusique", that allows people to connect to Apple's iTunes music store and purchase songs without any copyright protection. They reportedly insisted that "PyMusique" is a "fair interface" for iTunes, aimed at allowing people who use the Linux operating system to purchase music from Apple's store.

Apple's patched the 'vulnerability'.

Just a few days after that they found their way back in spite of the patch. That was when Steve Jobs decided that he'd had enough. He has reportedly paid DVD Jon an undisclosed yet bizarrely huge amount of money to join Apple. DVD Jon has accepted the offer adding to the ever-growing list of hackers who bag security jobs (pun unintended) in big companies.

Hahahaha Gotcha 1st April

Hi Guys, I have been using airport express for over 2 years for streaming music to my hi-fi. Always wanted to stream from any application i.e. Windows media player or winamp or power dvd etc. Been tracking the net for over a year. Came across a program Airfoil that works on Macs. Recently I started using the command line justeport created by DVD Jon. Works well. There is another program out on the net called OAEP. Very simple interface and works great. Streaming music or any sound from your PC is child's play. There is a latency of a few seconds that impacts you when you play videos or movies. But what the hell - just being able to stream off any program is a dream. Let me know if you need OAEP. Will send it to you by mail. Its a small prog. Also have the winamp standalone plugin for streaming to airport express.

Oh man! I almost believed this one!! Hahaha... But i don't think Jobs would dare to do such a thing, he wouldn't give up this way and be known as a the "millionaire who lost the battle against a teenager" or simply LOSER.

I can't believe this isn't a joke. Jobs doesn't stand for being upstaged... particularly by someone who is ******* with Apple's bread and butter; the segue-way into the Mac OS; the iPod and iTunes. I think Jobs is trying to find someone he can pay to put a bullet through DVD-Jon's head. I can't say I'd shed any tears either.

Brilliant. Apple has found another way to keep Linux users from using their products. Hire away the coders that try to make their stuff work with Linux. Strategy wise, Jobs is really beginning to match Gates!

Joe Apple doesn't seem to realize that Apple is dependent on the Music media who would pull their tracks if Apple's site was insecure. Of course, April Fools day may also give us OS X Tiger!

Not a bad idea. Hopefully giving him a paycheck will create a new-found conscience. I'd love a job with Apple... What would I have to hack? j/k I'll try thr normal channels of gaining employment after I graduate.
