Kodak and Nikon have announced that they would be launching Wi-Fi cameras, that would be available for purchase in October.

Mary Hadley, general manager - digital cameras, Eastman Kodak, said, "The Kodak Easyshare-One camera does more than just incorporate basic Wi-Fi functionality. It combines Kodak's signature ease-of-use with groundbreaking technology to give people a single, innovative device for sharing, taking, organizing, and printing pictures".

The camera uses the Schneider-Kreuznach C-Variogon 3X optical zoom lens (36 - 108 mm equivalent), a 4-megapixel sensor and the exclusive KODAK Color Science image-processing chip. It will be priced at $599 MSRP, including the KODAK WI-FI Card.

Nikon's Coolpix P1 and P2 have built-in Wi-Fi features, that let you transmit images wirelessly directly to a computer, or to any PictBridge-enabled printer equipped with the optional Nikon Wireless Printer Adapter (PD-10), for wireless printing.

The Coolpix 8-megapixel P1 and the 5-megapixel P2 transmit images via 802.11b and 802.11g-compatible wireless networks and adapters, with a range of up to 100 feet. The Coolpix P1 and P2 offer a 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor Glass lens, with a focal range equivalent to that of a 36-126mm lens in 35mm format.

Both feature Aperture-Priority Auto mode with 10-step manual control in 1/3EV increments and 11 of the camera's 16 Scene Modes are Advanced Scene modes.

The P1 and P2 will be available this month for US$549.95 and $399.95, respectively. The Wireless Print Adaptor will be available in October at a cost of $49.95.

This is wonderful. If you need anyone to test it, I would volunteer. I wonder whether the pix can be transmitted via ftp to any computer?

I can see it now: Shooting a important event and having your camera hacked. Or worse, getting scooped by photos stolen from your camera.

It would be nice if these companies include bluetooth functionality in their cameras, as the bluetooth adapter is inexpensive.

I sometimes have to transmit 3 6mb mp3 files with bluetooth. SLOW!!!! Most digital images ar at least 4mb each. It would take forever with BT.
