Nokia Releases Belle Feature Pack 1, Announces Lumia 610 With NFC

Bumps up CPU speeds of the 701 and 700, adds UI improvements.

The latest version of Nokia's Symbian OS, the Nokia Belle Feature Pack 1 is now available for download. Users of 701, 700, and 603 can now update their phones via Nokia Suite or OTA (Over The Air) using a Wi-Fi connection.

The update brings an improved UI to the tablet. It features 20 new widgets, revamped multitasking bar, and Dolby Digital Plus support. Additionally, there are a few improvements in the native apps including Nokia Maps and browser. Those who own Nokia 701 and 700 will get a CPU bump from 1 GHz to 1.3 GHz.

You can install this update by connecting your Symbian device to a PC. If you don't don't feel like using a PC, then dial *#0000# on your device and check for the update.

Apart from this Symbian development, Nokia has also announced the Lumia 610's NFC variant. As per my knowledge, this has to be the first NFC-enabled Windows Phone device. According to Nokia, they managed to do this by adding an NFC software stack on top of the WP platform.

In addition to the usual NFC interactions, the device has also been certified for MasterCard PayPass. The handset will be first launched in France on the Orange network. However, I'm not sure whether it will be made available in India any time soon.
