ASUS To Use Snapdragon 615 Chipsets In Future Smartphones

Plans to go the Apple way with new releases.

ASUS’ Zenfone 2 launch in India was indeed pretty big. While many are excited to check out the new Zenfone 2, ASUS CEO, Jerry Shen at another regional launch spoke about the company’s future plans.

The video embedded below is the full length interview, but the highlights certainly were the use of Qualcomm chipsets in future smartphones.

Yes, ASUS will soon switch to chipsets made by Qualcomm, although it isn’t clear about whether the same will be reserved for a particular segment of its smartphones.

The chipset mentioned by the CEO is none other than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, which is commonly found across Android smartphones, across different segments.

Jerry Shen also mentioned that the company will adopt a new naming convention, which is similar to Apple (also seems to do the same for product releases).

This would be similar to what Apple does (e.g. iPhone 5, iPhone 5s), meaning its next flagship would be a Zenfone 3. Also new flagships will be pushed out every year and see updated, incremental releases between them.
