SanDisk Launches Its iXpand Flash Drive For iPhone And iPad

Its not “goodbye iTunes”, but comes pretty close.

Rajesh Gupta, Country Manager, SanDisk unveiled today what iOS device owners will certainly call a lifesaver. The memory device that SanDisk calls the iXpand is a flash drive and this is big for iPhone and iPad device owners for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it will allow you transfer and backup photos and videos from your iPad or iPhone to the flash drive, to free up space on your smartphone when needed. This is critical for many iPhone users who happened to buy a device with a lower storage capacity and run out of memory often.

Secondly, One can even push files to your iOS device. This would include photos, videos and documents that get stored in the app’s ‘Download’ folder.

What would be the best feature on this smart flash drive is the ability to play music and video. The iXpand can play music and video files (a plethora of formats) thanks to the companion app and display them on your iPhone or iPad without the need for convertion or iTunes. Its as simple as transferring a video clip to your iXpand from a PC and plugging it in to begin watching it.

In terms of security all of the data that you transfer from your iXpand flash drive is safely sand-boxed in the SanDisk iXpand Sync app.

Then there is the Touch ID integration that seems rather smart, by allowing users to lock down their files (128-bit encryption) on the flash drive, accessible only with a passcode or a registered fingerprint.

All-in-all it makes for a great way to backup and transfer data from your iPhone to your PC or vice-versa in a jiffy.

The iXpand Flash Drive is now available in India on Amazon.in in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities At Rs 4,490, Rs 5,990, Rs 7,990 and Rs 11,490 respectively.

It is compatible with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad mini running iOS 8 or iOS 7.
