Xiaomi's Redmi 1S Smartphone Will Go On Sale On December 23

The news comes following the Delhi HC's decision to allow Xiaomi to sell devices equipped with Qualcomm chips

Xiaomi recently received a green light from the Delhi High Court to sell devices equipped with Qualcomm chipsets in India. Wasting no time, the company has announced that its Redmi 1s smartphone will go on sale in the country on December 23, followed by the 4G variant of the Redmi Note.

The Redmi 1s will be sold via e-retailer Flipkart as part of a flash sale, however the company hasn't divulged on how many devices will actually be available. “The good news is that Redmi 1S is coming back next week and we’ll be having our next sale on Tuesday, December 23.” wrote Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra, in a Facebook post.

After facing an import and sales ban for all its devices in India, Xiaomi finally found favor in the Delhi HC, which allowed it to resume sales of devices equipped with Qualcomm chipsets that do not infringe on Ericsson's IP. It is yet to be seen if the two companies can come to a settlement before the prescribed February deadline.

It isn't clear how the launch of the upcoming flagship Mi4 and MiTab – the two devices Xiaomi said it would launch before the end of 2014 - pans out in India with the looming court case. For now, news of Xiaomi coming back into the game should be exciting enough for consumers, just in time for some pre-new year shopping.
