HTC Promises Android Lollipop Upgrade Within 90 Days

Seems like we will be seeing a lot more promises now that the source code has been rolled out.

 

HTC has reiterated the promise that it had earlier made when Google announced Android Lollipop (Android L back then) at Google I/O. The Taiwanese smartphone maker today made it official via the company’s Twitter handle that it has obtained the Android Lollipop source code from Google and that the first handsets to be updated would be the HTC One (M8) and the One (M7) thanks to the HTC Advantage program.

While Google has actually let out the Android Lollipop source code today, it is indeed a bit odd as to how HTC being an OEM received it so late. Manufacturers usually receive their copy of the code much before Google dumps it on to the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) repository, which basically takes hours since it contains code for a long list of Google’s Nexus devices.

Again the Nexus 9 (made by HTC) is already on sale in some countries meaning that HTC has indeed been fidgeting with the code for quite some time now.

Anyways, it is nice to see HTC make things official but for now the company has only confirmed the update for the One (M8) and the (M7). Now that the we know the source has been delivered, we will soon begin to see Sony, Samsung and other manufacturers make their promises for the same as well.
