WhatsApp For Windows Phone Catches Up With Android And iOS

New update finally brings the app on par with its iOS and Android counterparts.

WhatsApp for Windows Phone has just received a feature-packed update. The app now includes a plethora of features that Windows Phone users have been missing for long. The update more importantly brings the Windows Phone app almost shoulder to shoulder with its iOS and Android counterparts, which is indeed a must when it comes to the UX for a cross-platform service.

The update brings a host of new features that Windows Phone users may have noticed were missing. The experience was even worse for 512 MB devices as app launch times had slowed down considerably. The new update tagged as 2.11.586 comes with the following new features:

  • WhatsApp now opens faster
  • You can now drop, drag and share a precise location
  • Captions for photos and videos have now been added
  • Photos can now be cropped and rotated
  • They have added the ability to archive chats and groups
  • Each chat or group can now have it's own background
  • Better support for phones with high-resolution screens

But Windows Phone users indeed need to be careful before updating as many have reported issues after installing the app. The new app is a bit buggy (notifications) so we suggest that you uninstall and then re-install the app if you face too many problems. But before that, do ensure that you have created a back up of your messages as you stand a chance to loose all of them.

We clearly have no clue why WhatsApp seems to have so many problems or who (WhatsApp or Microsoft) is the one who has fumbled time and again. After the big WhatsApp outage a few months ago, things seemed to be on track, but the notification bugs keep on coming with every new update as new features keep getting added.
