Nokia Lumia 530 Launches In Malaysia For Rs 6700

While we expected the price to be in the 8k region, Microsoft seems to be going for the Moto E with this handset.

Microsoft had announced the entry level Lumia 530 about 3 weeks ago and the handset already seems to be a hit, even though it hasn’t gone on sale yet. Just yesterday we heard that the handset was sold out after it went on pre-order on e-commerce website Snapdeal, even though the price tag was not mentioned. Now we hear that the smartphone has gone on sale in Malaysia albeit in its dual SIM form for an asking price of 355 MYR (approx. 6794 INR).

So it seems that Microsoft has finally let go of the quad-core wonder that will replace the Lumia  520. The Lumia 530 is an upgrade after all, with its 4 inch 854 x 480 pixel screen, Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor, coupled with 512 MB of RAM. While the RAM may not have been a good idea, it clearly fits the bill for the entry level segment and even includes a 5 MP camera to boot (although it is fixed focus one). Clearly Microsoft has its eyes set on local brands and internationally made handsets that run Android including the Moto E. Buyers still get a lot more with the Moto E including access to millions of apps and games from Google's Play Store.

While the Lumia 530 is available for order right now, Malaysians will only be able to get hold of one, when it starts shipping on the 16th of August. As for India, Microsoft should hopefully deliver the goods by the third week of August, now that pre-orders are already sold out and done with.
