WP 8.1 Update 1 Allows Opening Of Password Protected Office Documents

Among other enhancements, this clearly one of the smallest ones that make a difference.

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 (WP 8.1) is currently available on the Preview for Developers. This means there are a lot of  minute new features, apart from the one that VP of Windows Phone Program Management, Joe Belfiore mentioned in his official introductory post for the new update. One of these tiny new features as discovered by the guys at WPCentral is the password unlock feature for password protected Office documents.

Microsoft has apparently added a few tweaks in the WP 8.1 Update which were not mentioned in the official changelog and some of them go deep down into the OS and even in the Office for Windows Phone app. Office used to earlier throw up a ‘Can’t Open’ message for password protected files. Now after WP 8.1 Update 1, we get prompted with a box that will allow you to enter the password for the Office document. Indeed a minute yet handy software feature for those who use their Windows Phones for editing docs.

So far Microsoft has not separated the Office like it has done with Xbox Music and Games so the updates will have to come via the firmware update itself. Apart from the new folders, Cortana Alpha and support for wearables there are indeed hundreds of other improvements simply waiting to be discovered like Easter Eggs in a game.
