Not Receiving Your WP 8.1 Update? Get Off The Preview For Developers

Now that Microsoft has kept the Preview for Developers on hold indefinitely, your commercial Windows Phone updates may also be in the same state.

 

Microsoft seems to have gone into a sort of limbo and paused the Preview for Developers program indefinitely due to earlier problems with BitLocker encrypted devices. Windows Phone Central now reports that Lumia 1520 owners in the US are unable to receive the latest Windows Phone 8.1 Cyan update thanks to the same unsolved issue.The solution for now is to switch back to the commercial version of the software that comes with your phone and you will soon see the update notification showing up on your Windows Phone device.

Indeed Microsoft has screwed up in a way as things don’t seem to be going smoothly with Preview for Developers programme. Moreover since the company has not got back on the issue, it seems the best thing to do is to switch back to Windows Phone 8 and then check for updates.

Users have indeed reported that the Preview for Developers firmware was indeed the culprit that was not allowing them to receive the commercial Windows Phone 8.1 update. Once they switched back thanks to the Nokia Software Recovery Tool, the update popped up immediately.

Clearly the Preview for Developers as the name suggests was built for developers. Casual users picked them up in hurry as Microsoft did take a lot of time to release the Windows Phone 8.1 update.
