Setback For Apple As It Loses Siri Patent Case In China

Apple has said that it will pursue the case, but is open to talks with Zhinzen Network Technologies

In what could be a big setback, Apple’s ability to offer Siri in China may be under threat after it’s failed attempt to negate a Chinese Company’s voice-recognition patent.

While Apple has said that it would pursue the case in another court, they have also hinted that they might be open to talk with the company.

Shanghai-based Zhinzen Network Technology is looking to block Apple from selling products with the Siri app installed, saying that it infringed upon its intellectual property rights.

After the verdict, "Apple believes deeply in protecting innovation, and we take intellectual property rights very seriously," said a spokesman.

"Apple created Siri to provide customers with their own personal assistant by using their voice.

"Unfortunately, we were not aware of Zhizhen's patent before we introduced Siri, and we do not believe we are using this patent.

"While a separate court considers this question, we remain open to reasonable discussions with Zhizhen."

This is a big blow to Apple considering that Samsung is already in talks to buy Nuance, the company that powers the voice recognition technology behind Samsung’s S Voice and Apple’s Siri voice assistant.
