Zomato Acquires New Zealand’s MenuMania

The company’s first acquisition is indeed a well strategised one.

Gurgaon based Zomato has finally made its first acquisition and its MenuMania, a restaurant information website in New Zealand. The company that started off with just a website competing with the champ of the block ‘Burrp’ seems to have made a social network out of itself with apps that span across all operating system in the mobile space.

There is not a day that goes by that most people would not glance at the Zomato app, whether it is searching for a restaurant for lunch or simply finding out what’s on the menu. Zomato has built quite a reputation in India for itself by providing its information services to 41 cities in India and spanning a total of 12 countries across the globe as well. It’s no wonder then that the company decided to take over similar company in New Zealand helping it expand its services to the Pacific region.

Commenting on the acquisition, Goyal, founder and CEO of Zomato said:“Together, Zomato and MenuMania will be the largest resource of restaurant information in New Zealand, and I am sure both our users will love the integrated product once it rolls out over the next few weeks.”

Acquisition aside, Zomato indeed has one of the best looking apps, no matter which OS you are running on your handset. The Windows Phone app is certainly the most important one in the Windows Phone Store as the access to Google’s mapping services is a bit limited for Windows Phone users; considering that HERE Maps and Bing search aren’t all that updated in this area.
