Google Starts Testing Google Domains, Its Domain Registration Service

Once launched Google plans to partner with website building and storage services like Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly and Wix.com.

Internet search giant Google has announced that it is testing its very own domain registration service, Google Domains, aimed at businesses. The company hopes the move will help it shift dependence away from services like GoDaddy and eNom.

Google says, “Businesses will be able to search, find, purchase and transfer the best domain for their business” through the new service. Currently Google Domains is concerned only with domain registrations, and is available only to a closed group of users, but when it goes online users will be able to do a whole lot more.

The company plans to partner with website building and storage services like Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly and Wix.com to make for an easy and transparent experience for users. Further, Google already has most of the accompanying services in place, such as Google Wallet to make transactions, and Google Apps for managing the domain.

While Google Domains is being touted as a great business tool, the company added that there will be no added costs for private registrations. In fact, Google says that “if private registration is selected, we cover the cost of keeping your details private.”

If you're currently looking to build a website, follow the link to Google Domains and request for a registration code.
