Now Run Firefox OS Apps Just Like Native Apps On Your Android Device

This functionality should appeal to quite a the app developers, who needn't build different versions of the same app.

Firefox OS is one of the latest challengers to the dominance of Android, but it's so much more than an alternative to Google's mobile operating system. Since apps written for Firefox OS are basically web apps, you can run them in Mozilla's browser installed on your Android smartphone.

According to Engadget, if you have Mozilla's Firefox 29 web browser installed on your Android smartphone, you can run so-called Open Web Apps (OWA) on your smartphone. Further, apps installed from Firefox OS marketplace are treated just like native apps on your Android device.

Firefox OS apps get their own icons on the home screen, in the launcher, can be uninstalled through the menu and can run sans the browser clutter on any Android device. While the performance of these apps running on Android won't match that of native applications, the benefits are still clear cut.

This cross-platform compatibility of apps will surely appeal to quite a few developers who could take advantage of developing an app just once and being able to run it on multiple operating systems.
