Android 4.4.3 Update Out For Google Play Edition Devices

After the Nexus range and Motorola, Google’s Play Edition devices have started receiving updates.

While many handsets are yet to receive the Android KitKat 4.4.3 update, Google Play Edition (GPe) devices have begun receiving the update. The new software is said to iron out bugs and improve overall stability.

So far, the OTA firmware update is available for the HTC One (M7), HTC One (M8), the Samsung GALAXY S4 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra with only the LG G Pad 8.3 being left out. Strangely, non-T-mobile Nexus devices are left out in the cold.

Of course, all of this appears to be happening in the US only. The latest incremental update was just published by Google yesterday. Apparently no Android devices except for Google’s very own Nexus series haven’t received it.

While the rest of the manufacturers (Sony and Samsung) struggling to keep up with Android updates, Google Play Edition owners clearly have an advantage. On the other hand, Play Edition devices miss out on many fancy features from the manufacturers.

Google’s Silver Programme will probably change all of this soon and hopefully bring speedier updates on all of their premium devices at the same time.
