Sony Tinkering With A Self-Teaching EvolutionUI

Plans to quicken the learning curve helping newbies master its Android software offering faster.

This may sound like an April Fool’s joke that arrived a month later, but yes, Sony is working on a game-like UI for its Android handsets. Well, experimenting would be the right word, but it’s pretty clear that Sony is working on helping its handset users familiarise themselves with its Timescape UI. This they plan to do by developing an achievement-based system which similar to games will allow you to unlock parts of the UI as you progress.

Basically you start off with limited features such as the homescreen with the dialer, SMS browser and camera app. Once you master these, you will automatically gain access to the app drawer and the settings menu where you can customise your Android experience. Similarly, adding five shortcuts to the homescreen will give you access to more homescreens as well.

If you ask us, it sounds like a good idea for those who are completely new to the Android UI or who are switching over from an iOS or Windows Phone device. Such a UI will certainly help make the transition quicker but is definitely a no-no for Android faithful. Would you like to share your new unlocked homescreen on social media?
