Android’s Verify Apps Feature Will Soon Monitor Your Device Continuously

In a bid to extend their security services beyond Google Play, Google takes one big step against malware.

Some of us may be victims of it, while others simply have no clue that it is indeed slowing down their Android device. We are talking about Malware, that malicious piece of code that comes with apps that somehow misses the Play Store’s filter. They can slow your device down drastically and leak data out into the wrong hands as well; malware is something that Google has been fighting for a very long time.

We would agree that it is indeed hard to monitor the thousands of apps that appear on the Play Store on a daily basis. This is why Google has now made the Verify Apps feature in your setting menu, a full time one. The feature used to earlier pop up, warning the user that he/she is about to install an app that is not from Google’s Play Store. The feature used to also show up when you download an app in the .apk format and tried installing it via your device’s file manager.

With the upcoming update which will reach all Android devices shortly, the software will now continuously run in the background at all times. This is good as some apps have the ability to manifest after they have been installed. So if there is a thread running in the background that seems to be taking up too much memory, the Verify Apps feature will detect it and give you a warning that it needs to be uninstalled.

One of the quickly evolving mobile OS’, Android will keep on having such problems thanks to its open source nature. But there will always be workarounds to such problems and they can never be perfected. The good news is that few people are affected by malware; in fact barely a 0.18% of apps installed last year were detected to be malware. So you don’t have to worry about your device just yet.
