OnePlus Brings On Board The Faster Snapdragon 801 With 3 GB Of RAM For The One

Plans to keep up with the competition without losing track of user experience.

OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau has been eating his own words lately. After posting about OnePlus’ decision to pick the Snapdragon 800 instead of the newer 801, Pete Lau is back again praising the 801 this time around. The company has now taken a call to pick the Snapdragon 801 as their processor of choice, after closely working with their engineers about the best way to utilize its performance.

Last time around Pete talked about how QHD (2560 x 1440) displays were overkill for today’s processors. He also spoke about how picking the 801 processor made no sense, just because everyone else (Sony, Oppo) was going for it. Our guess is that his next post would be about moving to a QHD display instead of the Full HD one as per the current hardware specifications sheet.

Well, this time around Pete Lau talks about how the OnePlus team decided to go in for the Snapdragon 801 processor as their processor of choice. In fact, they have now decided to go with nothing but the best Snapdragon 801 processor, in order to deliver a smooth user experience to its customers.

The Snapdragon 8974AC is clocked at a higher 2.5 GHz, and offers a faster GPU clocked at 578 Mhz per core. The GPU’s processing speeds are a lot higher as well compared to the standard Snapdragon 801’s GPU. Lau states that newer eMMC 5.0 memory will also improve interface speeds and give a boost to read and write speeds as well. Lastly the RAM has also been increased to a hefty 3GB to ensure that the OnePlus One can run smoothly and multi-task even with heaviest of games and applications.

What is most important here is that despite all the new additions, OnePlus says that it will not impact their launch plans. This means that OnePlus will be there on stage on the 23rd of April 2014 to launch their first smartphone. We wish them best of luck and are dying to see what real innovation and freedom can bring about.
