Google Is Ready To Roll Out An Improved Camera App For Android

Hopefully now Android phones will have a chance to compete with the iPhone and Lumias on the image quality front.

Phones powered by Google's Android OS have have for long been blamed of producing sub-standard images in comparison to what the iPhone and Nokia phones offer. Despite bolting on hardware which is as good if not better than the competition, manufacturers of Andorid phones simply claim that the fixes need to be made on the software front rather than with the hardware.

According to Engadget, Google has for some time been looking to bring advanced photo features to Android, and that the tech giant is currently testing a new version of its camera app. Apart from sporting a refreshed UI, features such as background-blurring for portrait shots and improved panorama and Photo Sphere modes have been added.

A major improvement will come in the form of a framing issue fix, allowing users to snap photos with absolutely no viewfinder crop. That means you would be able to see exactly what you're shooting, with no unwanted objects creeping into the edges of your frame.

Filters will be the other big change with the new Android camera app, with Google opening support for third-party filters, encouraging developers and enthusiasts to create and import custom effects. The new lens-blur mode should function similarly to Nokia's Refocus app and HTC's new One where photos can be generated with shallower depth of field.

The report adds that the improvements for the camera app will be available to users through a standalone update rather than an implementation of the upcoming Android 4.4.3 OS update. For non-Nexus device users running Android 4.4 or higher, the app will exist separately on the app store meaning they wouldn't have to wait for OTA updates from their device makers.
