Mid-Range Sony Xperia M Finally Moves To 4.3 Jelly Bean

Update brings a much needed STAMINA mode and adds a Burst mode to the camera.

 

Good news for Sony Xperia M owners, there's now a Jelly Bean 4.3 update rolling out from Sony’s servers. As usual the update will be rolled out gradually region-wise, but this one is big as it brings quite a few new features to the mid-ranger.

The upgrade to Android Jelly Bean 4.3 should be a welcome change for users of Sony's Xperia M, who've been stuck on JB 4.1 ever since they bought the phone. The update brings along some much needed performance improvements and the addition of some new camera features as well.

The Xperia M's hardware specifications put it squarely up against Windows Phone devices from Nokia. The 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus dual-core processor ensured that apps ran smoothly, but at some point it fell behind some of the newer phones from Indian manufacturers in the specs department. However its 1 GB RAM ensured the phone ran smoothly and app switching was a breeze compared to similarly priced devices. This is why we cannot understand why Sony refused to add ‘Xperia themes’ to the update.

Anyways, the upgrade for the Xperia brings the following features:

  • Google Android 4.3 (Jellybean), bringing smooth UI and graphics enhancements
  • New version of Battery STAMINA Mode for longer battery life
  • Updated camera interface bringing Burst Mode, Superior Auto & More
  • Updated applications from Sony featuring Walkman, Album, Movies & More
  • Latest security enhancements from Android 4.3

It’s a fairly simple mantra. The more phones a company has in various segments, the longer it will take for the company to provide updates. It's a similar scenario over at Samsung; where apart from its flagships, the Korean company seems to be least bothered about updates. But now it seems the Sony has revamped its strategy; giving more faith to buyers of mid-range handsets. Let’s all hope that Sony keeps up the good work.
