Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, And Xperia Z1 Compact Bite Into Kitkat

The rollout has begun, but owners will have to wait till it’s available in their market or region.

 

Sony has finally began rolling out Android’s latest and greatest Kitkat to a wide range of devices. First wave of handsets to receive the update includes Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact.

The update brings a host of new features such as new wallpapers, tweaked settings, and updated native apps portfolio; not forgetting the new Xperia Themes UI. Have a look at the complete list of changes below:

  • Google’s Android 4.4; KitKat as standard – bringing performance & UI optimisation
  • Tweaked Status Bar and Quick Settings that are now more intuitive and customisable (and pretty easy on the eye). All cleaned up to ensure you only get the notifications you really need.
  • Sony PlayStation 4 like new user interface with sleek launch animations and live wallpapers across the lock and home screens
  • Updated native apps portfolio to the latest versions with tweaked / improved / current experiences for Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select, Smart Social Camera and more.
  • Sony’s Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies, with Sony Entertainment Network cloud service integration get a more converged and full Sony entertainment experience a more intuitive UI and better download speeds.
  • New custom interface experience with “Xperia Themes”, with downloadable UI packs from Sony Select
  • Sony also announced that they will be rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z and Xperia ZR from the middle of Q2 2014.

Additionally, Sony's blog also stated that the company is already working on KitKat updates for Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2; the details of which will be announced shortly.
