OnePlus One Smartphone To Sport Sony's 13 MP Exmor Sensor

CEO Pete Lau takes a jab at Nokia’s protruding camera phone, calling it ugly.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has been pretty active on the growing OnePlus official forum. This time around, he spent some time discussing the OnePlus One's 13 megapixel camera module, which manufactured by Sony. It's going to be an Exmor sensor capable of recording 4K video.

In his post, Pete Lau reveals that the Exmor IMX214 unit boasts of a 6 lens setup. He further added that the 6th lens helps in correcting edge distortion. The 13 MP sensor also offers a large f/2.0 aperturem, which when coupled with the Image Stabilisation Plus (IS+) will produce relatively better low-light images.

Keeping up with the company's 'never settle’ philosophy, the phone will offer 4K video capture along with 720p slow motion capabilities. For selfies, you get a 5 megapixel front-facing camera.

Pete Lau also took a jab at Nokia saying, “Unlike other manufacturers, our aim is not to compete with DSLRs, but to offer a portable product that performs well in real-life conditions (without an ugly protruding camera).” Referring to the Nokia Lumia 1020’s large protruding camera unit, which makes it a bit difficult to lay down on a flat surface to type.

Let’s just hope that the CEO will not have to bite his own words during the reveal if the camera fails to impress on the launch day.
