Digital Waves Launches Affordable Android Tablet

The feature-rich TabPlus Rio is available at just Rs 12,000.

Bangalore-based Digital Waves has entered the low cost Android tablet market with the TabPlus Rio, according to a press release. This Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) tablet is powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A9 processor and sports a 7", 5-point multi-touch capacitive screen with pixel dimensions of 800x480. The tablet measures 203x120x13 mm and weighs just 350 grams, making it lighter than the iPad 2. It has 512 MB DDR2 RAM and 4 GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded to up to 32 GB via microSD slot.

The TabPlus Rio supports Flash 11 for streaming videos. It can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi and select 3G dongles, which can be purchased separately. Its VGA front-facing camera is useful for video chat. The device can also be used for gaming, thanks to its 4-side G-Sensor. Excellent multimedia support exists, as the tab can play various formats including MPEG-1 \ 2 \ 4, H.264, H.263, WMV9, MOV, and MKV and relay output to a larger display device via HDMI. Being an Android device, users have access to a variety of apps to enhance the usability of this tablet. The battery capacity of 3000 mAh should not disappoint.
